Boyle takes his chance

Martin Boyle was named Player of the Match in Hibernian's commanding win over Aberdeen, lighting up the Scottish Premiership with a goal and two assists.

Returning to the starting line-up for the first time since early November, Boyle admitted post-game that he felt the need to prove himself.

“It was the kick up the backside I needed. The competition in the team is really high, and if you’re not performing, then I’m sitting on the bench," Boyle told Hibs TV.

"Thankfully, I got my chance today and took it.”

Boyle's attacking prowess was complimented by solid contributions from his Aussie teammates, including Lewis Miller, Jack Iredale, and Nectarios Triantis, who all featured prominently in the victory.

“I always want to contribute goals and assists, and thankfully I managed that today,” Boyle added.

“I’ve got a good connection with Élie (Youan) and Nicky (Cadden); we work hard in training. I was unselfish today, and there were people in the box to score the goals.”

Boyle also praised his teammates for their resilience and Hibs’ third win in four games, highlighting the importance of securing three points at a challenging venue like Pittodrie.

“The win was unbelievable. It’s really nice to come here and win because it’s a difficult place.

"The fans were absolutely brilliant. It’s a hard time of year for them to spend their money to come here, so I’m glad we could put a smile on their face.”

Ryan's long-awaited debut

Maty Ryan finally made his first competitive appearance for AS Roma, starting in their commanding 4-1 Coppa Italia victory over Sampdoria.

The 32-year-old joined the Serie A side in July after departing AZ Alkmaar. However, he has had to bide his time as a backup to Serbian international Mile Svilar.

Under the new management of Claudio Ranieri, Ryan seized his chance, delivering a composed performance to help Roma advance to the next round, where they'll play AC Milan in February.

It was Ryan's first competitive appearance at club level since the 19th of May.

Younis returns with a bang

Marcus Younis made a triumphant return for Jong PSV, coming off the bench to play 28 minutes in their thrilling 6-4 win over Vitesse in the Dutch Eerste Divisie.

The young Aussie marked his comeback with two assists, showcasing his creativity and energy in a dynamic display that helped his side to a memorable victory.

Souttar’s unbeaten streak rolls on

Harry Souttar helped Sheffield United extend their unbeaten run, anchoring the defence in a 2-0 win over Alex Robertson’s Cardiff City in the EFL Championship.

Souttar was a rock at the back, helping his side secure another clean sheet and strengthen their grip on first place in the league. Despite the loss, Robertson had moments of promise in a challenging encounter for Cardiff.

The Socceroos midfielder’s vision and leadership continue to drive his team’s push for Bundesliga survival as St. Pauli moved further away from the relegation zone.
